75 years of Eisvogel

Eisvogel anniversary: the perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity since 1949

If that's no reason to celebrate: 75 years of Eisvogel - a journey of four generations through countless ups and downs. But when we look back, one thing becomes very clear: in all these years, we have never lost our values and perfectly combine tradition, a sense of home and modernity.

Since day one, we have endeavoured to create a perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity in everything we do, to preserve our roots and our connection to our region. This feeling can be felt in every corner and in many details here at Lieblingsort. Every room tells its very own story of our homeland.

We are looking forward to everything that lies ahead of us together with many dear guests. We want to shape the next 75 years with just as much enthusiasm, warmth and innovation as we have already achieved in the past.

The Eisvogel story: From the beginnings to today

It was in 1949 when the masseur Hans Zettl and his son Karl Zettl began to convert a barn into a small café. In the beginning, the trained carpenter Karl Zettl and his wife Anna took their first gastronomic steps with just three tables. In 2024, we will be celebrating our 75th anniversary. 75 years of Eisvogel, 75 years of hosting and 75 years of warm hospitality.

A family business for four generations

75 years of Eisvogel is not just 75 years of history, but also 75 years of warmth, passion and love for our guests. Over five generations, we have filled this special place with life and made it what it is today - one of the most beautiful wellness hotels in Germany. Our journey began many decades ago, when Hans Zettl laid the foundation stone for this favourite place. A lot has changed since then, but one thing has always remained the same: our connection to our homeland and to the people who fill this special place with life every day.

Looking back: 1949 - 2024

A look back over the past few years reveals a fascinating journey through the history of our hotel. From our humble beginnings to today's modern facilities, we have always worked to offer our guests unforgettable experiences. Together, we have achieved many milestones that have made us what we are today. Let's look back together at the highlights of our history and toast to what is yet to come.

1949

It all started here in 1949 with the opening of a small café in a converted field barn right next to the Abens and just 3 tables, and has continued to develop steadily. That was the foundation stone of the Eisvogel, with which we are still firmly rooted today.

1953

The first major construction phase was about to begin: the "Eisvogel Hall" was built. It was the largest hall far and wide and soon had a firm place in the club life of Bad Gögging and the surrounding area.

1982

This was probably one of the most important years in the Eisvogel's history, as Karl and Hermine Zettl took over the Gasthof Eisvogel from their parents and at the same time undertook the first renovations, creating the first parlours in the restaurant and giving the existing guest rooms a new look.

1989

... On 16 June 1988, the Zettls' laid the foundation stone for the new 60-bed hotel. The topping-out ceremony was held on 16 September and the first guests were welcomed to the Hotel Eisvogel at Easter 1989.

1996

No time to rest. After moving into the new kitchen, the former kitchen and bar area were converted into further dining rooms and parlours. In a record time of just 12 weeks, the "Alte Kuchl", the "Alte Schänke" and the "Herrgottswinkel" were created.

1999

The catastrophe at Whitsun, the flood of the century in Neustadt and Bad Gögging. The Eisvogel is also flooded, restaurant rooms and the hotel cellar are severely affected and despite all this, the Eisvogel remains closed for just one week.

2009

... On 25 April 2009, Bishop Dr Daniel Nlandu Mayi consecrated the family chapel, which was built between 2006 and 2008. The reason for the construction was Karl Zettl's vow that he would build a chapel when he became a grandfather. After a lengthy planning phase and the search for a suitable location, construction work finally began in 2006 and was completed in 2008. The chapel is dedicated to the two grandchildren Theresa and Maxi.

2013

A big dream came true with the opening of the new Eisvogel Spa with 15 treatment rooms, bathhouse, sauna area, 25 new rooms and two seminar rooms on 19 July. This laid the foundation for the future of the Eisvogel as a wellness hotel  and that of the next generation.

2022

Once again, the Eisvogel is in a spirit of optimism and just in time for 1 March, construction work will start in the main building, which was built in 1988 - it will be completely gutted and 3 new room categories will be created "Comet, Diamond and Eclipse", which we were able to reopen on 1 June. In 2024, these were awarded the 1st Wellness Aphrodite prize in the Logie category.

2024

on the way to one of the most idillyc places! The hotel has been extended and expanded year after year. Today, the Eisvogel employs around 80 people, is now run by the fifth generation and is one of the most beautiful wellness hotels in Germany to have won several awards.
